Laid to rest
Colleagues across the company describe a leader who made time for people. He taught, encouraged and listened, and he handed responsibility to those he believed in. Many spoke of a man who greeted them with a joke or a laugh, and who would not end a greeting without asking after their family.
“His contribution to the growth and success of BBR, together with the positive impact he had on those who worked alongside him, will never be forgotten.”
The Board of Directors and Management of BBR
His influence reached well beyond BBR. Railway partners across the region, including the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), Zambia Railways, Botswana Rail and others, sent messages recognising his role in advancing safe, efficient and reliable rail transport. Some had known him since his years as a train driver, and others had trained or worked alongside him in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia.
Below are a few of the many messages received. All of them are collected in the condolence booklet at the end of this page.
“Mr Nyoni will be remembered for being soft spoken non judgmental and a true gentleman. Having raised up the ranks through self development, Mr Nyoni had acquired irreplaceable knowledge of Railway Operations.”
“Over the years, you demonstrated frankness, honesty, and the highest standards of professionalism in all our engagements. Your work ethic and unwavering commitment to improving rail efficiency and effectiveness further strengthened the relationship between NRZ and BBR.”
“You never missed an opportunity to teach, offer a listening ear, or provide guidance. Your wisdom, patience, and dedication touched many lives and inspired us to be better every day.”
“He was someone who always took the time to encourage me. He would often tell me, “Never stop improving yourself; you will get there.” Those words will remain with me forever.”
BBR extends its deepest condolences to his wife, children, extended family and friends. We share in your grief and stand with you as you mourn this profound loss. May you find comfort in the cherished memories you shared with him, and strength in the support of those around you.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”2 Timothy 4:7
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
